The Legend of the Candy Cane
A Gift of Love

You may have always thought that the candy cane
was just a confection for Christmas.
Not so.it has much more meaning for those
who have eyes to see and ears to hear..

Once upon a time, a humble candy maker
from Indiana decided he wanted to make
a special gift for the King of Kings
and Lord of Lords. He thought to himself
that no ordinary candy would do.
It had to be hard candy, because the church
is built on solid rock and God's Promises
are our firm foundation.

Then he formed the candy in the shape of a shepherd's staff.
A "J" that would also
stand for the precious Name of Jesus.
The candy as lovely as it was, just had to say more.
The white stripes were designed to symbolize the
Virgin Birth and the sinless nature of our Redeemer.

Then the candy maker added three small stripes,
which would represent the scourging
that Jesus suffered at the Pillar,
on His Way to the Cross. One large red stripe was
then added to remind all of us of His Precious Blood,
that He shed as payment for our sins.

When he was finished, the candy maker sat back
and decided that his gift to the
Infant Lord would be this humble candy cane:
a gift that would tell the world of Jesus's story-
the Greatest Love Story ever told.
