Joy

Christmases past were full of joy
For every excited girl and boy.
Goodies and gifts were welcome sights
As well as beautiful Christmas lights.

The best of all was THE CHRISTMAS STORY
To hear how angels from heaven's glory
Told of His birth in a lowly manger.
Born to redeem us----friend or stranger.

Today I glance through a Christmas book;
For the holy Babe in a manger I look.
I see Santa and candy and Christmas trees,
And colorful lights trimming all of these.

There are children playing in the snow;
Even a horse with a sled in tow.
Tables are decked with gorgeous food;
The air is filled with expectant mood!

Hard as I try I can find no trace
Of stable and manger of Christ Child's face,
No angels to herald the coming King
Nor resound through hillsides while they sing.

Mary and Joseph are not to be seen,
Nor shepherds to broadcast the Savior's theme,
No cattle lowing in the night
Observing the Birth in such dim light.

To me it seems a terrible shame
To let children believe it's only a game.
Many don't know why He came from above---
This Child of Bethlehem sharing such love.

If we don't tell of His miracle birth
To redeem our souls which have little worth,
We'll miss the greatest event on Earth---
The return of Jesus of lowly birth.

So let's put Christ, our Savior and King
Back into Christmas, then we can sing
"Joy to the World" the "Silent Night",
Then lives will shine in His glorious light.
