High above the countryside a curious fairy,
with a desire to find out what lies beyond her woodland home,
is being towed by her butterfly playmates.
To her delight she finds that with their help she can fly
even higher than her tiny wings would allow.
Their wings beat in unison,
Life to me is no brief candle;
it is a sort of splendid torch which
I have got hold of for the moment,
and I want to make it burn as brightly
as possible before handing it
on to future generations.
~George Bernard Shaw~
Let us put our minds together
and see what life
we can make for our children.
Could I climb to the highest place in Athens,
I would lift my voice and proclaim,
"Fellow citizens, why do you turn
and scrape every stone to gather wealth
and take so little care of your children
to whom one day you must relinquish it all."
Nobody on his deathbed ever said,
"I wish I had spent more time at the office.
Children are the keys of paradise.
It seems to me that since I've had children,
I've grown richer and deeper.
They may have slowed down my writing for a while,
but when I did write,
I had more of a self to speak from.
The best thing to spend on your children is your time.
We don't inherit the Earth from our ancestors,
we borrow it from our children.
What feeling is so nice
as a child's hand in yours?
So small, so soft and warm,
like a kitten huddling
in the shelter of your clasp.
A child's hand in yours what tenderness
and power it arouses. You are instantly
the very touchstone of wisdom and strength.
Give a little love to a child
and you will get a great deal back.
Listening is a high art of loving.
Ask yourself, "When was the last time
I really listened to my child?
My parent? My brother or sister?"
When someone is ready to share,
three magic words amplify your connection,
and they are:
"Tell me more."
~Rev. Mary Manin Morrissey~
Our planning may leave something to be desired,
but our designs, thank God, have been flawless.
~Noor, Queen of Jordan, on the birth of her
4th child in 6 years ~
Love your children with all your hearts,
love them enough to discipline them
before it is too late ...
Praise them for important things,
even if you have to stretch them a bit.
Praise them a lot.
They live on it like bread and butter
and they need it more than bread and butter.
~Lavina Christensen Fugal~
Children should be taught
not the little virtues
but the great ones.
Not thrift but generosity
and an indifference to money;
not caution but courage
and a contempt for danger;
not a desire for success
but a desire to be and to know.
Children are one-third of our population
and all of our future.
~Select Panel for the Promotion of Child Health~
The soul is healed by being with children.
We must teach our children to dream with their eyes open.
To bring up a child in the way he should go,
travel that way yourself once in a while.
The family is one of nature's masterpieces.
The baby rises to its feet, takes a step,
is overcome with triumph and joy -
and falls flat on its face.
It is a pattern for all that is to come!
But learn from the bewildered baby.
Lurch to your feet again.
You'll make the sofa in the end.
When wings are grown, birds and children fly away.
If you are too busy to spend time with your children
then you are busier than God intended you to be.
~Rabbi Mendel Epstein~
But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them,
"Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them;
for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
I do not love him because he is good,
but because he is my little child.
Every child comes with the message
that God is not yet discouraged of man.
~Sir Rabindranath Tagore~
There are one hundred and fifty-two
distinctly different ways of holding a baby -
and all are correct.
~Heywood Broun ~
Children need love,
especially when they do not deserve it.
